You were having a nice day until you opened your mailbox, and there it was… A letter from the IRS!!!. You haven’t opened it yet, but already your heart has dropped to your stomach, your palms are sweaty and your hands are shaky. You are worried and scared!!!
Alana Tax Group is here to tell you – Don’t Worry. The IRS sends out A LOT of letters! Not all communication from the IRS is worrisome and requires your immediate response. On occasions, however, the time to respond to the IRS letter is limited, and, if not properly handled, may cause you to lose your home, and, with it your peace of mind.
After hesitating for a moment, you finally open the letter and start reading, but you have no idea what the letter says or requires you to do. That’s why we created this page to help you understand the most important letters or notices that taxpayers receive from the IRS, and the steps, if any, that should be taken in addressing the letters.
As we have said, the first step in dealing with the IRS Notices is to understand what they are all about. Below is a list of Notices most often received by the taxpayers. Click on the notice you received for a detailed explanation (see below to figure out your notice number).
If you owe money to the IRS and received one of the notices listed below, don’t worry. You don’t have to face the IRS alone. We are here to help. Call our office at 855-472-8294, and we can help you figure out the best option for dealing with your notice.
What is my notice number?
There is a notice number on the top right hand side of your IRS letter.
There are a few IRS letters that do not contain a notice number. The titles of the IRS letter are listed for letters without a notice number.
Not every letter you could ever receive is listed here. If you received a notice not listed here, please call us 855-872-8294 and we will gladly discuss it with you.
Example: In this example below the notice number and title are highlighted in the red box, CP11.
